The Things Dreams Are Made Of [Fig + Mascarpone Bites]

In my dreams I live in a place where fresh figs are in season all year long. I'm obsessed. And one of my biggest regrets in life is that for more than two decades, I thought figs were only for Newtons.

I love how they are not overly sweet. I love how well they pair with anything, savory or sweet. I love how they feel indulgent and fancy! I love their soft, plump texture and how beautiful they look when sliced. The thing that I HATE? That they're only in season a few short months out of the year.

Figs with Mascarpone, Honey & Cinnamon

Usually I add figs to my Greek yogurt, along with walnuts and honey (SO GOOD!). I also really enjoy them in oatmeal. For savory dishes I love them in arugula salads. But the BEST way to enjoy this fruit of the gods? On a cracker or wedge of toast, covered with mascarpone, ricotta, feta or brie and topped with a gorgeous fig. The only thing in life better than figs? Figs with cheese.

I've resorted to dried figs in the winter (and I won't feed you lies—totally not the same). Desperate times call for desperate measures. But let's not go there just yet. We still have a few glorious weeks left where these beauties will steal all your love. Try and grab a few before they disappear. And then invite me over to join, won't you?

you'll need...

sturdy crackers or toast (I recently discovered these and really like their nutty flavor)

mascarpone, feta or brie cheese

fresh figs, rinsed, dried and quartered (1 fig will top 2-4 crackers/toasts)

cinnamon

honey

to make...

Spread an even layer of cheese on toast or cracker. Add a quarter of a fig (or more, depending on the size of your carb "base"). Drizzle with a touch of honey and light shake of cinnamon. Arrange on platter. Devourer.
